The problems that bring sites to us

People rarely plan a migration for fun. Something is forcing the move, and the traffic is what they are afraid for.

A migration done right ends with the same rankings on a better foundation. Every step of ours exists to protect what you already earned.

  • The platform is the ceiling. Wix, Squarespace, or a proprietary builder that cannot do what the business now needs.
  • The last agency owns the site, the developer disappeared, or nobody has the credentials, and leaving feels like starting over.
  • A redesign or migration already went wrong once, traffic dropped, and it never came back.
  • The site ranks well and everyone is scared to touch it, so it stays frozen on a platform everybody hates.
  • Two companies merged, the brand changed, or the domain has to change, and every URL on the internet points at the old one.

Website migration services we offer

One honest note first. If all you need is your current site copied to a new host with nothing else changing, your new hosting company will usually do that for free. What we handle are the migrations where rankings and revenue are on the line.

icon wp migrations

WordPress migrations

Sites moved off Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy builders, Webflow, Joomla, Drupal, and proprietary agency platforms onto a custom WordPress build you own outright. Aging WordPress installs get the same treatment through our website redesigns, same URLs, clean new build underneath.

ecommerce icon

Ecommerce store migrations

Stores moved off Magento, PrestaShop, Volusion, and aging carts onto WooCommerce or Shopify, and between the two. Products, categories, customers, and order history come over, and the category URLs that earn search traffic get mapped before anything else, because that is where store migrations bleed.

icon domain search

Domain and rebrand migrations

Name changes, mergers, and moves to a new domain, with one to one redirects, Search Console change of address, and the followthrough that keeps years of links pointing somewhere that counts.

icon site merge

Site merges and consolidations

Two brands becoming one, an old blog folding into the main site, or five regional sites becoming a single domain. Each source site gets the same URL inventory and redirect treatment, so the combined site keeps the traffic all of them earned.

icon seo migration

SEO migration planning

The discipline that decides if a migration succeeds. Full crawl and inventory of the current site, traffic and ranking benchmarks per URL, a one to one redirect map, canonical and internal link updates, and a launch checklist ordered by what would hurt most if it broke.

icon tracking

Analytics and tracking continuity

GA4, Tag Manager, Search Console, and conversion tracking rebuilt and verified on the new site before launch, so day one data is real and a traffic problem would be visible the day it started, not the month after.

Why sites lose traffic when they move

1

Redirects that almost got done
Most failed migrations die here. The homepage and top ten pages get redirected, the other four hundred URLs return errors, and the rankings attached to them evaporate. The fix is boring and absolute, every old URL mapped one to one before launch day exists.

2

URLs changed for no reason
New platforms love to impose their own URL patterns, and every changed URL starts over in search. We keep existing URLs wherever the platform allows and redirect precisely where it does not.

3

The staging site block that shipped
Staging sites are hidden from Google on purpose. Launch with that setting still on and the whole site disappears from search while everyone celebrates the new design. It is on our launch checklist twice for a reason.

4

Nobody watching after launch
Rankings do not drop the day of a bad migration, they slide over weeks. We benchmark before the move and watch Search Console, rankings, and traffic against those benchmarks after it, so a problem gets caught while it is still a fix and not a recovery.

Migrations we can point to

Trust Guss Injury Lawyers.

A national law firm on a rented legal marketing platform, with more than 1,000 pages earning search traffic. We moved the entire site to a custom WordPress build without changing a single ranking URL, and the firm kept the search traffic its cases come from.

BootCamp Digital.

A 300 course WooCommerce catalog rebuilt and restructured, with years of overlapping content consolidated instead of copied across, so the new store ranked better than the old one instead of matching it.

Our Website Migration Process

STEP 01

Crawl and Inventory

Every URL on the current site gets crawled and recorded, with its traffic, rankings, and links, so nothing exists that we do not know about.

steps shape
STEP 02

Benchmark

Traffic, rankings, and conversions captured per page before anything changes. This is the yardstick the whole project gets measured against.

steps shape
STEP 03

Redirect Mapping

Every old URL mapped one to one to its new home. Kept where possible, redirected where not, and signed off before the build is approved for launch.

steps shape
STEP 04

Build and Verify

The new site goes up on staging, and we verify content, URLs, schema, tracking, and speed against the plan, page type by page type.

steps shape
STEP 05

Launch Protocol

Redirects live, staging blocks removed, sitemaps submitted, Search Console updated, and the whole map spot checked within hours of going live.

steps shape
STEP 06

Watch and Prove

Rankings and traffic tracked against the benchmarks for the weeks after launch. You get the before and after numbers, not a promise that it probably went fine.

If you want someone who actually understands how to grow a business online, call Alex. Alex reviewed our entire website, identified opportunities we were missing, helped improve our SEO, and completely sharpened our Google Ads strategy. What impressed me most was that he didn’t just throw around marketing buzzwords—he gave us clear, practical recommendations that actually made sense for our business. He’s knowledgeable, responsive, strategic, and genuinely invested in helping his clients succeed. And just as importantly, Alex is an absolute pleasure to work with. There are plenty of people who claim to understand SEO and Google Ads. Alex actually does. Five stars without hesitation. Highly recommend.

Working with the PixelChefs team was an absolute pleasure. From the start, they took the time to understand IMPOWER’s mission and translated that into a website that truly reflects who we are as a nonprofit. The entire process was smooth, organized, and collaborative — their communication was always clear, and they made thoughtful recommendations that helped us elevate both design and functionality. One of the biggest highlights was how seamless the handoff felt. PixelChefs empowered our team to easily manage updates on our end, and they were quick to respond to any questions along the way. It’s refreshing to work with a team that genuinely cares about the impact of their work. We’re thrilled with the final site and highly recommend PixelChefs to any organization looking for a partner who combines creativity, professionalism, and heart. - Anna Kesic, President/CEO, IMPOWER

Website migration FAQs

It depends on what moves. A migration bundled into a rebuild follows our custom site pricing, $8,000 to $25,000 for business sites and more for large ecommerce, covered on our web design pricing page. Standalone SEO migration planning for a site being built elsewhere is scoped by URL count and complexity. Plain hosting moves with no changes are usually free from your new host, and we will tell you when that is all you need.

Small sites move in 2 to 4 weeks. Full platform migrations with a rebuild run 6 to 12 weeks, and large ecommerce replatforming runs longer. The redirect mapping and verification are where the time goes, and they are the parts that protect your traffic.

Inventory every URL, benchmark its performance, keep URLs where possible, redirect one to one where not, carry over titles, content, and schema, verify everything on staging, and watch the data after launch. No single trick, just none of the steps skipped. Skipped steps are where migrations fail.

Some movement in the first days is normal while Google recrawls the site. What a proper migration prevents is the lasting drop, and the benchmark and monitoring exist so you can see the recovery in numbers instead of taking our word for it.

Yes, that is one of the most common moves we make. Content and URLs come over, redirects cover the URLs those platforms force, and you end up owning the site, the code, and the hosting. Our WordPress web design page covers what the new build looks like.

Yes. Hosting, DNS, email records, and SSL get handled as part of every migration, and we set up the new environment with staging and backups. You own every account when it is done.
